sock for child
(actually I’m much further along now)

that’s all I’ve got

let the kid sleep

I know, I missed 3 days, but I went 14 before the lapse and that’s pretty good for me.  Life has been life, Hubby had a b’day, MIL was back in the hospital (she is in a rehab center now, again), my parents got back from a road trip across country, and we finally bought a new dishwasher.  See, life.

On the knitting front I am almost done with the vest, ribbing on one armhole left to go.  Saturday I spent 2 hours knitting the ribbing on the other armhole, I cannot count to two apparently and had to keep tinking back the k2p2 ribbing.  Did I mention that the stitches had already been picked up, all I had to do was knit the ribbing, six rows, pathetic.

Tonight I cast-on some socks for Bug.  The yarn was purchased from Emma at DragonFibers, and the colorway is called Eight Nights.  After casting on and knitting a couple of inches it seemed that the sock was too big.  Since Bug was asleep I couldn’t check, or could I?  Now if I were a bad mother I would go into her room with a measuring tape and measure her long skinny feet while she slept, with the possibility of waking her from a sound sleep.  Yeah, okay, I’m a bad mother.  And, yes, I do need to rip out the sock and cast on fewer stitches, oh well.

mitten mitten

who’s go the mitten . . . pattern?  I finished An Unoriginal Hat, by the Yarn Harlot, tonight.  It still needs to be soaked and blocked, so no pictures yet.

Now I want to knit a pair of mittens to go with it.  My Aunt is going to Alaska, this week, to visit my Uncle.  I want to make her some warm mittens to go with the hat, it’s cold in Alaska.  My first thought was thrummed mitten, very warm, but possibily too warm once she gets back home.  Second thought lined mittens.  Oh, now that’s a good idea (if I do say so myself) and I have some frog tree alpaca that would be all soft and warm and cozy.  Okay, so now what.  I’ve gone thru books, I’ve Googled and Raveled and eventually found a reference to lining mittens on Hello Yarn so I’m going to wing it and see what happens.

I mean, really, what could go wrong?

Bwahahahahahahaha

looking back

I was looking back in the blog archives and I discovered that a year ago today my Saturday knitting group at VYT started meeting, mostly by accident.  Last fall I started going to VYT on Saturday mornings to have a cuppa and knit, by myself.  One Saturday Annie and Terri arrived, they had been knitting down at Third Place but with the holidays approaching Third Place was getting a bit loud, so they migrated up to VYT.  I knew Annie from the Thursday morning knitting group, so we all sat together and knit and drank tea.  The rest as they say is history.

This group has become my sanity, I’m a sahm and once a week I get to go out, by myself, and spend time talking to adults.  Adults who I don’t have to remind to blow their noses, or to wash their hands, or tell them to stop jumping on the furniture, or ask them if they need to ‘make tinkle in the potty’.  Heaven on earth!

It has been a wonderful year, we have added many knitters to our group, some are regulars and some come and go as they can.  I love meeting new knitters, and spinners.  This group is the reason I started spinning, darn them.  I can’t wait to see what this group looks like a year from now.

Peace Fleece - Chickie Masala

The vest is almost done and I think this is going to be the next thing on the needles, another Peace Fleece cardigan for the Bug.

Lorna's Laces Shepherd Bulky

Or maybe this, a simple pullover, also for bug, from some Lorna’s Laces.

Oh, but I need to cast on the yarn I bought today and finish the project by Wednesday.  So, I guess the above projects will have to wait a couple of days.

why yes . . .

. . . I have been knitting.  I’ve been working on a sweater vest, nothing ground breaking, but a fun little knit.

KPS Vest

Haven’t been spinning much lately, though.  Finished up the 4oz of Candy Corn BFL (at least I think it’s BFL) but haven’t started the brown roving to ply with it.  Did the prep on the Spook Targhee, but haven’t even set up the wheel since then.  It’s ok though, I seem to go thru this, spin or knit, not both, and right now it’s the knitting.

I have been thinking about getting out the knitting machine, it’s my Aunt’s and it’s been in my garage for too long.  Need to figure the thing out and see if I can create anything on it.

I was innocently reading thru my usual blogs when I came across one of the Yarn Harlot’s latest post.  In that post is a great simple hat, chunky and cabley, quick to knit, and oh so cute.

I headed over to BMFA to browse the yarns and find a couple colorways that would be perfect for hubby’s niece, my aunt and my cousin.  Okay, $20/skein x 3 skeins, no problem.  Then it dawns on me, I could make matching mittens in the STR!  Hmm, that puts it at more like $40-50 per person and I’d have to knit three hats and three pairs of mittens.  Okay, that’s still doable.  The more I browsed, the more people I wanted to add to the list . . . and the more un-doable the list became.

I’ve now come back to reality and I’m back to one hat/mitten set and . . . I don’t know.  This could be a little more crazy leaking out.
