and they’re off . . .

Today is the start of the Bazaar Socks KAL and we already have some questions from our participants.ÂÂ
Gail asked: I’ve had a problem already not understanding PGR provisional cast on. :-( After several hours of frustration, I just used the crochet provisional cast on. Is there a tutorial anywhere showing the one referenced on the pattern?
Yes, Gail, there is a wonderful video tutorial at KnittingHelp.com. The tuorial is about half way down the the page. I think I will be using the circular needle version, looks like it would be easier to start knitting the other way with.
This will be an adventure for me as I have never done a toe up sock. I have my sock yarn, but I need to figure out how I am going to mix the colors. Time to pull out the colored pencils and graph paper.  I think it will be a couple of days before I will be starting my socks since I have sick children at home right now.

Anyone else?

Those are going to be fun socks!
Hee hee, I just read your post titled “why why why” and sorry, but I laughed. My husband is SO that way! I am on crutches (go see my blog when you have time) for another few months and I am forever sending him to specific places like “on the third shelf down, behind the car washing supplies in the kids’ bathroom in their linen closet” and he can’t find things. Then I get out of my chair (grunt, groan) and crutch it over to the spot where I find it instantly. Men!!!!!!
Ooooh, look at all those bright colors! Those are going to be glorious socks once they’re finished.
I love that yarn for the colors. And the washability. They know their stuff in Scandinavia.
I also struggled with the cast on required in the pattern and checked out knittinghelp.com. It helped me to understand how to do it but then the cast on was just wayyyyy tooooo loose. When I picked up the stitches at the other end of the toe it looked horrible! So I went to the crocet cast on too and I think I will be much happier with this way :)
I am sure the other way works but I just need more practice at it.
I have my yarn (one color was backordered — I don’t know for how long — aack!). I have 2 other pairs of socks on needles — one for my husband. He’s starting to wonder if I’ll ever finish them. I could do the toes of my Bazaar socks, but that’s as far as I can get until I get the other color. Maybe if I work on them when no one is at home… ;-)
Check out my progress on the bazaar socks. Perhaps it will jump start someone else.
