new dress

This morning I woke up and decided to make Daughter a dress for the Father - Daughter dance at her school tonight.  This is what things looked like at 10:40.

I had finished cutting it all out by 11:30.

I finished sewing it up except for the hem and tried it on Daughter, umm, I had forgotten the first rule of sewing . . . MEASURE THE FLAT PATTERN!  It was way too big.  I took in the sides shortened the hem and it was better.  The neckline still gapes a bit and I pinned her into the dress when she was getting ready so I could take up a bit of the fullness in the back.  I think I will resew the back seam and neck facing so it will fit properly, I don’t think there is anything I can do about the front.  I am not totally thrilled with the outcome, but most of my issues are with what I had to do to make it smaller, not necessarily the pattern it’s self.  I do think she looked adorable going out the door to the tropical themed dance.

pattern:  McCall’s 3134, view A
fabric:  1.5 yards cotton knit pique I received in a swap a year or two ago
start/finish:  March 4th
notes:  Always measure the pattern first!  Saves a lot of frustration.  I do like the pattern and I am sure I will make it again, I will fold out some of the fullness in the front and back next time, unless she has grown a LOT in the mean time.

quick project

I love a quick project.  I started it last night and finished the last few rows this morning.

midfebcloth.jpg

Pattern:  Lacey Squares - mid-Feb KAL at the Monthly Dishcloth KAL
Yarn: Lion Cotton
Needles: Clover Bamboo US6
Start/Finish:  Mar 1-2
Notes:  As usual I made the cloth a bit smaller, one less repeat in each direction.  I think this pattern would be cute in a baby blanket.

silly nonsense

socks - finished at last

The socks from the January KAL, that I tried to finish for the February KAL are now finished . . . in March.

shellsock_fo.jpg

Pattern:  Child’s First Sock in Shell Pattern from Knitting Vintage Socks by Nancy Bush, the toe is from the Knitting Pure & Simple Child’s Sock pattern.
Yarn:  Plymouth Encore DK in 233 (lavendar) and a little bit of green from another skein when I ran out of the lavendar.
Needles:  Clover Bamboo DPNs, US4
Start/finish:  Jan 19 - March 1
Notes:  I modified the original pattern to fit my daughter’s size 1 feet and the DK yarn.  I cast on 40 - 5 repeats, in hindsight I wish I had used size US3 needles and one more repeat for a slightly firmer fabric.  Next time I use this yarn I will do so.  It was commented that I should consider ripping out the other toe and knitting it in green too, I may . . . but not today . . . today they are finished.

did she do it

Nope.

It’s just after midnight and I have 4 rows of the last repeat and then the toe left to do.  Oh, well, I’ll just have one of the first socks for March.
